1. Select an Insurance Company

A decent method in choosing which insurance companies to participate with starts with a bit of exploration. Who are your competitors participating with? Which companies offer higher reimbursing fee schedules? It is also in your best interest to credential with the major companies that employers in your area offer to their employees. 

2. Contact Insurance Agencies

This is significantly more convoluted than it ought to be. Tracking down the perfect individual to converse with, what time a call should be made, where to send an email, etc., can become overpowering. Reach out to the provider relations department with each insurance company, and they will be able to assist and guide you through the credentialing process.

3. Negotiate Expenses

Once you submit an application, you are locked into a fee schedule for 12-36 months (depending on the insurance company) before you can request a fee increase again.

Make sure when completing a credentialing application to answer all questions listed and submit all supporting documents requested. Failing to do so can prolong the already lengthy processing time with an insurance company.
