Challenges Facing Dentists Today
The dental profession is ever changing and improving with the invention of new technology. While these technological advances are a good thing, they can also pose new and different challenges for dentists. From money problems to patient care, staff and office issues, dental practices all over the world are being affected by new issues.
Challenges Facing Today’s Dentists
Below are a few of the major concerns that dental practices are currently facing:
- Student Loans – Dental school student loans are very high and can sometimes take decades to fully pay off. In fact, some practices can be over 20 years old and still have student loan debt. Combine these student loans with increasing tuition costs and it’s a clear challenge facing today’s new dentists.
- Lack of Support – Many dentists believe that dental schools don’t do enough to help graduating dentists find jobs and become established. Some dentists also believe that the lack of support for new dentists threatens the success of future dental practices in the country.
- Corporate Dentistry – Private dental practices are being threatened by corporate dentistry. Just like many of the larger brands have begun to offer optometry, they may also begin to offer dental services as well. Because these larger corporations can offer lower prices, many private practices are put at risk.
Just because these challenges exist doesn’t mean they can’t be overcome with hard work. If you focus on providing excellent patient care and executing proper marketing techniques, you can ensure that your dental practice is successful.
